| Escape the pressure and stress of your busy life to one of New Zealand's most dramatic and beautiful locations, Bethells Beach, located only 40 minutes drive from Auckland's CBD. Situated at an incredible vantage point on the West Coast, the two self-contained cottages offer casual comfort and coastal views of the Tasman Ocean.
Spectacular sunsets and sea views lead nature to your door. Bethells Beach Cottages provide an exceptional New Zealand accommodation experience never to be forgotten. Surrounded by mountains and the Tasman Sea and sheltered from the wind by spectacular 200-year-old Pohutukawa trees, our two holiday cottages are sunny and North facing and set amongst lush gardens. Trude was born here and John joined her in 1991.Trude lives by the motto "To give is to love and to love is to live". Her warmth and generosity are widely known and reflected in all the little touches which make a stay at Bethells Beach Cottages special. Each cottage is self-contained and private, with access to a large brick barbecue for fine weather cooking and entertaining. The vast front lawn is ideal for games and the gardens are thoughtfully designed for relaxation. Bethells Beach Cottages are a short walk or drive from the beauty of Bethells Beach (Te Henga). This wild and rugged coastline offers blissful solitude and striking views with its black iron sands, maram and pingau grass laden dunes and the sights and sounds of the pounding surf of the Tasman Ocean as it hits the shoreline. This is an ideal for spot for surfing, surf casting and/or rock fishing. If you head in the direction of the beach, don't forget to make time to explore the caves at night under the magical light of the glow worms and phosphorescence. Alternatively, you may choose to pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the relative calm of Lake Wainamu, a fresh water lake well suited to swimming. You may decide to discover the expansive black sand dunes along the way, or go on a bush walk to examine the excellent examples of New Zealand native flora and fauna. You are also close to vineyards and some restaurants and cafes. Due to most guests' preference for absolute privacy, Trude and John tend to keep a very low profile; however, as longtime Bethells Beach/West Auckland locals, they are able to provide guests with information on local adventures and indulgences, historical accounts of the area and personal walking tours of beach, valley and dunes by arrangement. As an experienced London cook, who has worked throughout Europe, Trude can by prior arrangement, provide guests with a range of sumptuous meals prepared from delicious locally grown and organic produce for six or more guests. So, while all cottages are fully self contained with amply equipped kitchens, you are able to leave the Culinary Extraordinaire to prepare your morning or evening meals if you so desire!
