Things
to see and do…
Private access to the deserted beach below is an activity undertaken by most guests. On the beach, especially after a storm, can be found pebbles of pounamu (jade). This beautiful stone is harder than steel and was used by Maori for weapons, jewellery and barter. Other pretty stones can be found such a pure white quartz, jasper and serpentine. The driftwood art-pieces that litter the beach pose many a thought as to how they can be taken back home. Most people staying at Breakers Boutique Accommodation visit the intriguing pancake rocks at Punakaiki. Here, geology has created rock sculptures and caves from the limestone. The blowholes (best at high tide and with a big swell!) are the subject of much photography. Punakaiki is just 25 minutes north from Breakers Boutique Accommodation. Mountain biking… Stephen and Jan are both avid mountain bikers and there are numerous great rides close by or just a short drive away. Firebreak roads, old forestry roads, great single track, gold mining and coal mining areas – explore the history by bike amongst lush rain forest. Great back country adventures to be had. Storage facilities are available for your bikes. Other Attractions
